The Power of Pause and Play: How Stepping Away Creates Clarity, Purpose, and Transformation
The Moment Between Becoming
There are moments in life when continuing to push forward isn’t what’s needed…
What’s needed is an intentional integration pause.
An intentional pause allows space to breathe.
To integrate, celebrate, and listen more deeply.
Like when the butterfly first emerges from the chrysalis, it just did A LOT of transformative work within the chrysalis, and now it needs its wings to fully dry so it can take flight.
I find myself in one of those moments now.
As I prepare to leave on an extended road trip—a journey that is both a pause and a celebration—I’m reminded that transformation isn’t only about productivity and movement forward.
It’s also about honoring what has already unfolded on the path to bring you to this very moment.
Often, we are so busy creating and being in service that we forget to “pause and play”.
The Practice of Pausing
(From WOW to WOM to Pause)
During my recent time studying at Kripalu with my teacher, Anodea Judith, we were guided through a powerful accountability reflection process once we committed to our purpose and vision. We needed to set actionable, timely goals:
WOW (Within One Week): What immediate aligned actions do I need to take in one week?
WOM (Within One Month): What deeper commitments do I need to complete within one month?
When I returned from Kripalu, I kept my WOW and WOM actions prioritized on my Trello Board. As the week and month progressed, so did my progress.
Then, the final commitment item was left on my WOM:
To choose the date for my Guided Metamorphosis workshop.
A decision that represented not just planning…
But stepping more fully into the work I am here to guide.
Choosing a date is the moment that everything becomes real, and it is the moment when I choose to commit to my next “butterfly journey”.
…I chose! Not only did I choose, but I found a partner venue to host the first in-person Guided Metamorphosis—and signed the contract to hold true to my commitment.
Completion: WOW! WOM!
Anodea shared the final layer that we needed to commit to after the 30 days and what we set into motion:
We must pause and play.
We must celebrate.
We must integrate.
Because without that gratitude and space, we move forward…but we don’t actually become. We need to allow our wings to fully form to allow us to serve the gardens.
Why Pause and Play Are Essential for Transformation
In a world that often rewards constant productivity,
pausing can feel unfamiliar—even uncomfortable.
But nature shows us a different rhythm.
A caterpillar does not rush the chrysalis.
A butterfly does not skip emergence.
There is a sacred in-between.
Within that liminal space:
Clarity deepens
Energy recalibrates
Purpose becomes more embodied
Play is infused into this process.
Not as a distraction, but as an expansion.
Play reconnects us to:
Joy!
Creativity!
Possibility!
It reminds us that becoming isn’t meant to feel heavy; it is meant to feel alive.
My Current Pause: A Road Trip of Celebration and Integration
This road trip I’m about to begin holds many layers.
It is:
A celebration (a birthday journey with my husband, both of our birthdays are in March).
An integration space after deep personal and professional growth (not to mention the Wood Snake shedding and the Fire Horse gallop for 2026).
A pause before the next level of becoming
This road trip wasn’t planned as a “strategic move”, it was planned months ago.
When I step back, I can see: It is exactly what is needed at exactly the right time…literally ONE MONTH to the day from the workshop at Kripalu.
This is something I often witness with the people I guide: When we listen closely enough, life naturally creates the pause we need.
The Power of Intentional Retreat Spaces
While some pauses emerge organically, others are intentionally created.
This is the purpose of retreat—to pause to come within—and to RE-Treat yourself to what your body, mind, and heart need to recharge.
There is something powerful that happens when people step away from their daily environments and gather with shared intention.
The noise quiets.
The heart becomes more audible.
Clarity begins to rise.
Not because anything is forced, but because space allows truth and joy to appear.
An Invitation Into Pause, Play, and Possibility (Tulum, Mexico Retreat)
This spring, I’ll be co-guiding a retreat in Tulum, Mexico, alongside Payton Kiely from Peak Yoga and Wellness. A space intentionally designed for this kind of “pause and play” to support inner transformation.
A space where we can:
Pause and breathe deeply
Reconnect with ourselves beyond roles and responsibilities
Experience joy, movement, and presence
Explore what is ready to emerge next
Together, we’ll weave experiences such as:
Mindful movement and holistic practices
Sound healing (including within a cenote)
Heart-opening practices
Reflection and integration space
Community connection
This retreat is not about escaping your life. It’s about returning to it with greater clarity, alignment, and joy.
Ready To Pause and Play?
The Layered Path of Transformation
Transformation is not linear, it moves in layers: Action » Integration » Celebration » Expansion
Right now, I am in the integration and celebration layer.
And soon… expansion will follow.
If you are feeling:
Stretched between who you’ve been and who you’re becoming
Ready for clarity, but unsure how to access it
In need of space to breathe and reconnect
This may be your invitation to pause and play.
What would it look like to honor your next level of becoming, not by pushing harder, but by pausing more intentionally?
What might emerge if you gave yourself space to listen?
What are ways you can invite playfulness and pauses into your life?
